Afriendly Mexican guy, in the usual camouflage clothing, came up to the fence. I think he mostly wanted to chat because he said he didn't need food. Or maybe he was hoping that the Samaritans had brought something other than the granola bars.
I did record his story. The gist of it is that he is from Nogales, Sonora and has been living in Tucson with his wife for eight years. He showed me his Arizona drivers license, his Social Security card and his authorization to work card, all of which seemed legit. He said he was stopped by Border Patrol and they said it's all fake and deported him, but kept him in jail for six months first. He had a lawyer helping with his original case, but not now.
So now he is having to pay $9000 to be guided back to Tucson. He says people from other countries pay more.
