I chatted with one of the Border Patrol guys for a while. He was saying in their intelligence briefing that it appeared that the border disputes between various factions of the Sinaloa cartel have been resolved. The Cazadores (hunters) are apparently in charge.
He said that since the election, there hasn't really been a change in the number of asylum seekers coming north, but they've seen an uptick in migrants who are skirting all the laws and going into the US.
He referred to these as "detections", meaning either apprehensions or got-aways. He said the agency hasn't briefed them on what's going to happen with the new administration and it seems as up in the air for BP agents as it is for us.
