    Was thinking about web rings tonight and came across this post. I don’t know for sure if Google actively penalises web rings (or links pages), but we have lost something by not having them anymore. Curation of indie websites / blogs was an important part of the early web, including early Web 2.0. https://mastodon.social/@HumanServitor/113573150261668389

Same with the "Links" pages almost every early web site had with fun stuff, friend's sites, etc. Now we're trained to include only directly relevant links and to sprinkle them contextually in the bodies of the content otherwise we will be offending the #SEO gods. I tried to gin up support for an amateur fiction web ring briefly and ran into this wall.
