The difference between Slovenia and the Netherlands:
In Slovenia, supermarkets sell hard liquor (like vodka and whisky). While you're waiting in line to pay, they have them in the "impulse-buy" section, next to chewing gum and candy bars, as small bottles, like you'd get on an airplane.
In the Netherlands, two grey-haired French ladies were trying to talk to the checkout girl. I acted as interpreter. They wanted cigarettes. Dutch supermarkets are banned from selling cigarettes as from 2024.
