I went to a private hacker con recently. Good people, top notch talks. Good times. But a fellow attendee pointed something out to me and now I can't unsee it.

There were some themes:
- genuine excitement about AI
- out of work or unhappily employed
- no concerns about climate change, civil unrest, economic hard[er] times, etc.

People seem to unconsciously think things will keep going on like they have been, forever.

It was surprising. Especially from people whose job it is to foresee problems
