@ireneista this is why i tell my sons, LOVE YOU, whenever we walk out the door. Trayvon Martin was killed for getting a soda and skittles in a hoodie… AND HE PAID FOR THOSE.

Trayvon’s murder shook my sons at a time they were old enough to go out to school and the deli by themselves.

we don’t know if either of us will be killed by a cop for looking the wrong way.

this is my nightmare as a Black Latina mother.

i wish more white folks understood OUR need for safety.
