One reason why US capitalists love H1-Bs is that they are the closest thing they get to indentured servitude of tech labor. H1-B visas are tied to a company, and a person with the visa must leave the country when their current employment is terminated.

H1-B visa holders are *effectively* exempt from labor protections: they can’t unionize, protest low wages, or quit due to working conditions, because they risk deportation.

The visa has a duration limit of six years, after which the employer can discard the worker with a shrug and no penalty, and hire new ones to start the process over again.

Yes, H1-B visas give you time to get a green card (I went through that process), but the employer has to help with that, and most aren’t that interested.
