The hardest part about preparing for a new job is deciding what language I should be practicing. I wrote C# for the past two years, but I don’t exactly want to stay with it.

Web jobs are abundant, so do I focus on the latest Javascript?

Do I brush up on C and revisit Rust, to go back systems programming, like before I got hired to do web dev work?

Or, do I follow my heart and actually become a fully competent functional programmer in Guile and/or Elixir?

Question for other engineers –how much do you search for a specific language/technology when job searching?
