Indulge my fantasy that there might be a 3D printer under my tree. (There isn't.)

Assume I've never touched a piece of CAD or 3D modeling software, but I yearn to learn.

Know that I am loathe to spend time learning commercial or web tools, even free ones. I am a FOSS bigot.

What free open source tools (ideally, ones with attached communities) should I be looking at?

And what are some good "learning for the novice" resources?
