Later we see Rudolph guiding the sleigh with his bright red nose. Once they are high up, an elf starts pulling out toys and giving them an umbrella before tossing them off the sleigh. The indication here is the umbrellas help the toys float safely. Then he pulls out the flightless bird and an umbrella.
