no, it' doesn't come from "vibe" or "vibration"
this will sound cringe but it was years ago, so buckle up:
I was desperately looking for some replacement nickname for my internet presence that would be good enough (I wanted to have a public presence on youtube too at the time so I wanted something that if you were to search my channel would pop up and not something else).
I was putting whatever words in Google Translate in hopes of maybe finding something cool sounding in some language like Japanese. I have settled with one name I used for a while which was the result of heavily changing letters of the translation of the word "different" in I don't even remember what language. I thought it sounded weird but I was planning to have everyone use a shorter cuter version of it when referring to me: vib. Later I just wanted to drop the original name.
I stuck with just "vib" as I moved to the fediverse and the less crowded internet where @vib was available to claim most of the times.
In conclusion, through many changes, the origin of "vib" is actually the word "different", as edgy as it sounds lmao.
