AnarchoNinaWritesAlthough thematically The Hanging Garden blends in perfectly with an album I like but don't love, I think what really makes this track stand out is its excellent pacing and rhythm. The pounding drums, and simple but throbbing baseline combine to hint at music styles The Cure would explore more deeply on later albums Wish and Bloodflowers, while Smith's echoing pained vocals presage his work on Disintegration. Easily The Cure's most Siouxsie and the Banshees-esque song.
