Bruce Perens K6BP@hennichodernich - I'm not endorsing it, but I think there should be a community effort to make an entirely free firmware. I guess this would take re-engineering the interconnect in the FPGA code, and the driver. I also think running it on a full Linux distribution is overkill, it could run on Busybox.
