It's the same recipe they applied in Iran and Iraq.

During the Shah years, Iran made massive weapons purchases to the West, modernizing its army. After Khomeini took power, the USA provoked Iraq into invading Iran, destroying (and arming) both countries, until the arsenal the Shah had bought was gone.

Then they destroyed Iraq in 2 wars and now the Iraqi army is way less powerful than it was in the 90's. They want Israel as the only regional military power.
