God uniquely does not need to be, because of God's superiority to Being. we creatures are because we must be for there to be an us; for us Being is a necessity. it is not at all necessary for God: God does not need to be, Being is not God's natural state. yet God's Being provides us with an experience which we desperately need, of a perfection within Being which is greater than Being. this Being-of-God cannot be other than love, because it is an emptying-out-of-self and a coming-into-us for our sake, and that act is intrinsically one of love
