@anathema it's originally actually a tunisian dish from when tunisia was held by the ottoman empire and after the columbian exchange first introduced tomatoes to europe. It spread through the maghreb and then throughout the ottoman empire (so including modern day israel) and now israelis claim its an israeli cultural dish
