@evan Qualified yes. It's a good model that will work well for most people. But other models ought to exist: self-hosting for single-user instances, universities providing accounts for students, governments multi-casting announcements, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to see for-profit instances run by paid employees, funded by advertising for a non-paying tier and paid membership for a tier without advertising.
