Here’s the biggest difference: if you are a *documented* immigrant over 18, federal law requires you to produce those documents when requested by CBP agents. If you are a US citizen, you obviously do not have to carry or produce those documents.

That does not mean that you have to answer questions. Like everyone else, immigrants (documented or not) have the right to remain silent and ask for a lawyer. /5
