Customs and Border Protection (not the FBI, not regular old police, not even ICE) are empowered by statute to conduct warrantless searches of vehicles and vessels for people without immigration documentation within a “reasonable distance” of the US border. That’s 100 miles. Which is the entire state of Florida and most of the largest US cities. It’s a classic exception swallowing the rule situation. /4
