@sleepingnevi not so much popularity as the music cartel. Limited selection on radio stations due to licensing, pay for play, etc. If radio had more free reign on what they could broadcast you'd see a far wider variety of music and the same 20 sounds from the 80s wouldn't be drilled so far into your brain you get nauseated every time you hear them now.

Lots of things have gotten worse over the years but we're very spoiled for music selection now and I appreciate how much their grip has loosened.
