More naive #GPU repair attempt: success! My Nvidia CMP 170HX starts working again! 🎉 After replacing the Gstek GS7155 5 V to 3.3 V LDO, verifying its feedback loop, and fixing its open-circuit 5V_PS_ENABLE signal (probably a broken trace or via somewhere while I was attempting to replace components...) by borrowing the same signal from a 74 AND gate via a jumper wire... 3.3 Vseq is back! 1.0 V Vcore (NVVDD) is back! PEXVDD is back! The GPU is detected from PCIe, the GA100 is alive! #electronics (📎4)
RE: More naive #GPU repair attempt: MP1475DJ has been replaced, I just restored my 5 V rail. The 3.3 V LDO has also been replaced, but it uses QFN so it's impossible to tell for sure if it has been soldered properly... A cold joint on the feedback pin will certainly blows up everything on the GPU. Here's my impoverished plan to distinguish a good and a bad LDO: replace the feedback resistor to temporarily reprogram the 3.3 V output to 1.8 V, then applying 3.3 V at its input pin. #electronics
