OldAndCrankyI'd thank my father for his service on this veterans day, but he was 4-f. Seriously. He tried to enlist on Pearl Harbor day- my mom was at home with my newborn sister praying that he wouldn't get accepted by any branch- and he didn't. He had a messed up ear from swimming competitively, a wife and kid, was a public school teacher, and they told him he could better serve his country at home, He volunteered at the ship yards in Newark, IIRC. If he'd gone it's likely I wouldn't be typing this now. Happy Veterans Day and thanks to those who served, and those who kept the home fires burning.
