In the US with the election results, A LOT of people are (understandably) panicking and wondering what they should do next. "Find an org" isn't the worst option if you don't already have relationships with communities that will be targeted or people with experience in direct action and resistance with stakes.
HOWEVER just like after October 7th, vanguard & authoritarian organizations are pouncing on the opportunity to recruit. They pose as an easy way to get involved and do something for The Revolution™️, but are really just looking for more warm bodies, dues paying members and mailing list subscribers. "Big" names like the PSL, RCP and FRSO are just the most recognizable, there's plenty of smaller wannabe vanguards that act the same but have fewer members.
If you see people searching for something to do and exploring radical politics, try to be a good mentor figure so they can both find effective action suited for them, and so they can avoid being cynically exploited by some alphabet group. The last thing we need is for a second wave of activity sparked by trump to be coopted into either tankie or DNC/non-profit dead ends.
