This is an example of what's happening: the mainstreaming of right-wing populism. In this case, of the claim that to stand for justice, inclusion and enlightened democracy is elitist. That's squarely among the subversive myths propagated by the hard right.

And people fall for it, I think, because it alleviates them from a responsibility to face some harsh truths. Media shouldn't.
