@ericleamen I don't think it's a good idea to blame any single variable. Yes, the sexism is big, perhaps the biggest variable. But the decades-long dumbing down of the voting pool is pretty important too. Without the anti-intellectualism which has defined the GOP since at least the time of Reagan, without that this tariff nonsense would be laughed out of the room. Instead it plays well to a slice of the electorate fiercely proud of its know-nothing ways.
