What's the best money you ever spent as a writer?
I'm old-school and trad-published. I always follow Yog's Law: "money flows towards the author". If you self-pub then obviously you have overheads like paying for cover art, editorial and production services, and marketing, but those don't apply in trad publishing.
So … maybe the costs of my first US worldcon (in 2003), where I got to meet my agent and both my editors at Tor and Ace face-to-face for the first time?
