A lesson I learned working in film:

Dumb to make a thoughtless/dismissive/sweeping remark re: some complex piece of pop culture to someone I find out worked hard on that very thing.

Even worse, they had done some of the work on it that I liked! Now I lost an opportunity to learn!

I try to always assume the creator is listening; be critical without being a dick.

Many creative folks love to critically dissect work, especially their own.

I try to start from a place of respect for the effort.
