This ancient Egyptian ostracon (potsherd) preserves a fragment of an actual ghost story. The more than 3,000-year-old story of the High Priest of Amun Khonsemhab and his encounter with a troubled ghost can be found on a set of four ostraca, discovered around the necropolis of Deir el-Medina near Thebes, but today housed in museums in Paris, Vienna, Florence, and Turin.
