Suddenly, they hear a voice from underneath the bed, "Psst!  Hey kid!".  They're startled, "Monsters!"  Calvin asks, "What do you want?"  The monsters answer, "There's a big, shiny toy for you under the bed, come get it!"  Calvin is not taken in, "Oh sure!  You just want me to come down there so you can grab me with some oozing appendage, slowly paralyse me with some vile secretion, and devour me alive!  Nice try!  Forget it!"  He turns over in bed, "Stupid monsters, all fangs and no brains."  They settle in again but the monsters now try another strategy, "Psst!  Tiger!  We'll give you some salmon if you push the kid over the bed!"  Hobbes is in two minds and asks, "Is the salmon fresh?"  The monster says, "Hold on, I'll check.  Yeah, it's fresh."
