@GNUxeava It's called a bathtub curve - defective HDD's soon fail, but then the failure rate drops down, before ramping up after 5 years.

The most common reason for HDD failure seems to be the proprietary software on the controller board failing - the actual hardware tends to last without failing for 10+ years unless you have a 20 second spin down cycle set.
