I grew up in one of the worst Red states by all meaningful metrics—healthcare, education, quality of life, roads, employment, etc. There are a lot of lovely people there, but the overall culture was one of pettiness, gossip, unacknowledged racism, and “fake nice.”
Growing up, I dreamed of moving, even if just to a slightly better adjacent Red state.
I’m glad instead I decided <4 months before graduation to move to a Blue state, and one of the BEST Blue states, too. It’s paradise in comparison.
