Torrent file sharing basically splits files in lots of small pieces, then multiple people on the network share to other people who demands de file pieces. See for example in the first screenshot that for this file lots of available people from around the world are either sharing or requesting the file.
So the software will download pieces for you and it will share to others who demands it.
It's also wise to first require encryption to avoid ISPs or other middle man from snooping on your downloads, it's in the options.
