We had those kind of requirements even when I was an undergrad. I managed to find the most ridiculous courses though. The one I recall was a class where we read Spanish literature, but guessed the meaning of the words based on how they look and sounded as compared to English. We literally got to make shit up and go credit for doing it. 😏
