- Embed this notice@Rocc @kaia The reason why the VHS format "won" despite being of lower quality was for two main reasons; the player cost and the runtime.
VHS players needed less expensive components than betamax players and therefore VHS players could be sold cheaper and people would clearly just go for the cheaper player if they weren't concerned about the quality difference.
Also, it was possible to actually fit a whole baseball game on a VHS tape unlike a betamax tape, same as any long running video, thus long running videos tended to be released on VHS instead of multiple beatmax tapes.
