the optimal way to use the fediverse seems to still be to run a pleroma on the equivalent of a raspberry pi and never touch anything because it works. Unfortunately this isn't accessible or affordable to everyone. The best would be something meshy that does not even need a server and can just run off an app in a phone or on desktop
