at identi.ca we called posts "dents"
a french colleague from wikimedia complained this made her think of "teeth", which is what "dents" means in french
now we all use mastodon; the name "mastodon" literally comes from the greek "mastos" (boob) and "odous" (tooth) because some freaky scientist thought the teeth looked like they had nipples
imho this is .... worse somehow once you uncover it :D
