One path forward I foresee is the Republican party collapses, then the dominant Democratic party develops rival factions and splits into two parties, but with a shared foundation (rule of law, help people rather than hurt them, etc) on which to base normal political disagreement. A shakeup that hopefully leaves a lot of accumulated cruft behind and gives Leftists a first-party position. Stranger things have happened.
