Being a ham radio operator I've tinkered with the innards of a couple from the '90s and there isn't much in there to make the battery explode; Now I wonder if they found a way to do it anyway; whether these were more modern (i.e. using more general purpose processors); Or if they managed to simply plant actual explosives...
