- Embed this noticeIf the newcomers tried to learn about the culture they were entering into, and learn the language and assimilate, no one would give a shit. There are tons of people who apply to JET every year to teach English in Japan. A lot of them try to learn as much as they can before they go. I had a friend who moved to Germany and worked so hard on her accent to try to fit in. She fell in love with all aspects of German culture.
When people put in the effort to immigrate legally, it's very different than people being scooped up in refugee and relocation programs.
It is a bit arbitrary which animals we do and don't eat honestly. But for the Haitians seen taking local geese and ducks, at a minimum it's a hunting license violation. But it's also a violation of American cultural norms. We have deer and duck season, and you get a permit, because we've discovered good wildlife management benefits everyone.
