Mutter had Gnome integration so that made a lot of sense to me.  It was outright rejected because "we don't want our users to program their desktop" or something.  Went back to sawfish/sawmill and a happy <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/exwm" rel="tag">#exwm</a> user now.
