Sean Bala@anneapplebaum Listening to this right now and it is fantastic. I had not given deeper consideration to different roles of lies in political discourse beyond the obvious. It is not about getting people to believe lies but using them to enforce loyalty and group identity. As Adam Kinzinger points out, people would rather jump in front a train than go against the group.
