The Rape of Nanking, Bataan Death March, and comfort women are glossed over and Unit 731 and the horrible behavior exhibited aren't mentioned, largely because the US pardoned the perpetrators in return for the results of the research. Shiro Ishii, the head of Unit 731, became a pharmaceutical exec and public figure after the war. He didn't even have to leave the country to do so, he just had to put down the scalpel and go to the office.
I think a lot of it is because beyond the nuclear bomb, they don't want the US looking bad.
