The trouble is civilization starts to evaporate when that percentage stops having faith in it. The _waking up_ she's talking about is its own type of illusion. Everyone wants to think they're the ones outside of Plato's Cave, or walked away from Stanley Milgram ... but you never really know what side of the experiment you're on until it's hindsight.
