Dumb Idiot Retard (idiot@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 14-Aug-2024 09:26:49 JSTDumb Idiot Retard I can't remember whose timeline I saw the "grown rock" slopify screenshot on. About how "oh millenials don't want to admit they're old but their music really is 'classic rock' now." I thought about it more, I decided I disagree.
As you go further and further from the 60s/70s, "rock" and "pop" diverge significantly. The only reason "alternative" popped up is because in the mainstream, rock influences had really died off in favor of hip-hop and rap as you hit the new millennium. At some point you're going to have to break off the stuff from the 70s and early 80s from the stuff being grandfathered in to "classic rock." It's kinda like how the PS2 is supposed to be retro now but really isn't compared to the NES/SNES/et. al.
Like imagine lumping these two together because they're "old enough to be classic." We're not far off.
