August 9 is the ten-year anniversary of the killing of Michael Brown and the start of the Ferguson Uprising.
For many, the first glimpse of Ferguson was a sign, handwritten on a torn piece of cardboard, held by a middle-aged Black man in a tank top and jeans: “Ferguson police just executed my unarmed son!!!” The photo was posted to an Instagram account, now deleted, and circulated throughout social media on the afternoon of August 9, 2014.
