erm...guys...youre gonna wanna come see this
I can't enjoy life after realizing it's full of contrivances
1. The big bang just happens, and we still have no idea why? Really seems like a Deus ex Machina to me.
2. The universe has laws that allow life to exist in it. Forces are seemingly scale-variant, electrical signals can be conducted, matter can decay and turn into other matter, matter can clump together. Wow, how convenient. Out of all the possibilities, this is the one that happened. I took a second-year stats class so I know Reality is Unrealistic.
3. I am a being conscious enough to be self-aware. I can see what I am screwing up and fix it, yet I do not. I can see what other people are screwing up and I can fix it, yet I do not. As my life is a comedy, I am an Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist. This is a suboptimal way of acting, however, and the protagonist failing to fix this really kills investment I have in the story.
4. The protagonist has people who want to see them succeed more than they do. Ain't that convenient. The protagonist never gets a chance to see their actions bite them in the ass because they have people who constantly watch out for them and tell them what to do, softly guiding them in the direction they'd aim if they got out of their own way. It'd be far more realistic - and better written - if the protagonist was their own Tragic Hero, rather than someone else's Sheltered Aritocrat. That things are the way they are is stupid unrealistic, unlikely and unenjoyable.
