Two things stand out to me, a person with a microvision (1970's tech) who was there in the 80's...

That is a very odd phone jack. Looks more like an ethernet jack, which would be late, late 90's. To be honest, in the 80's, it probably would be token ring or arcnet... tho I only dealt with arcnet. Either might be fun to put on the model...

The tube is too short.it should stick visibly out the back.

If you want flat, LCD was popular and absolutely existed in 1980, so you could go with a 16 x 16, or 24 x 24, matrix of lcd black (only) pixels.

Or... as it is nintendo...

Game and watch lcd carts. Replace the screen with game and watch lcd's.

Neat idea, hope this gives you some ideas to develop it further.
