The reason they work is rooted in the psyche of the conservative insecurity that they are normal and everyone else is WRONG. When they are called weird, it calls out that insecurity that the world is leaving them behind and that they are now the minority. The HATE that, like DEEP inside, and they feel compelled to defend themselves (which is their downfall).
When you have to keep telling people you're 'NOT WEIRD' over and over again, you've lost control of the narrative. 🌊
