#Germany said Thurs it “did not take the decision lightly” in releasing convicted Russian #assassin Vadim #Krasikov. The government said its interest in enforcing his sentence stood against the “freedom, physical well-being & — in some cases — ultimately the lives of innocent people imprisoned in #Russia & unjustly held political prisoners.”

“Our obligation to protect German citizens & solidarity with the #UnitedStates were important motivators,” the statement said.
