Wikipedia focuses on Cambodia but it's a little inappropriate; China had just done the same thing, half the point of their Cultural Revolution was to destroy any trace of the culture that existed before, because any culture that arose during the imperial era had the taint of imperialism. USSR did similar. I mean, there were Pharaohs that did similar, they'd erase people they didn't like, but in the "Year Zero" sense of the recreation of history from the ground up, it's unique to communist regimes.
